- Power Drill
- Screws and Wall Plugs (suitable for your wall/ lintel material - concrete, steel, wood)
- Tape Measure
- Spirit Level
- Utility Knife or Sharp Scissors
- Safety Glasses (recommended when cutting)
Step-by-Step Installation Instructions
Step 1: Measure Your Opening Accurately
This is the most important step to ensure a perfect seal.
- Measure the Width (A): Measure the total width of the door opening from one side of the frame to the other.
- Measure the Height (B): Measure from the very top of the opening (where the channel will be mounted) down to the floor.
- Calculate the Number of Strips Needed:
- Our strips are 200mm wide.
- For a proper seal, strips should overlap by 30-50%.
- Formula: (Width of Opening (mm) / 200mm) * 1.5
- *Example: A 2400mm wide door in a Kuching warehouse: (2400 / 200) * 1.5 = 18 strips needed.*
- Calculate Strip Length:
- Add 10% extra to your height measurement to allow the strips to curve slightly at the bottom, creating a better seal and allowing for easy passage.
- *Example: A 2500mm high door: 2500mm + 10% (250mm) = 2750mm (2.75m) per strip.*
Step 2: Cut the Strips to Length
- Unroll the PVC strip on a clean, flat surface.
- Using your tape measure, mark the required length (from Step 1) at several points along the strip's width.
- Use a straight edge and a utility knife to score and cut the strip cleanly along the marked line. Wear safety glasses to protect your eyes from any plastic snippets.
Step 3: Mount the Aluminum Channel
- Hold the channel in place at the top of the doorway. Ensure it is centered.
- Use a spirit level to make sure the channel is perfectly horizontal. An unlevel channel will cause gaps in your curtain.
- Mark the screw holes on the lintel through the channel.
- Drill pilot holes and insert wall plugs if drilling into concrete or brick.
- Securely screw the channel into place along the entire width of the doorway. Use screws every 300-400mm to prevent sagging, especially in wider doors common in Bintulu or Brunei industrial sites.
Step 4: Insert the PVC Strips into the Channel
- Begin at one end of the channel. Insert the first strip into the channel.
- Add the next strip, ensuring it overlaps the previous one by the intended amount (e.g., 50% overlap means you only see 100mm of each 200mm strip when looking straight on).
- Continue this process across the entire width, ensuring consistent overlap.
- Pro Tip for High Traffic Areas: For doors in Lahad Datu or Miri with very frequent forklift traffic, stagger the cuts on the bottom edge (e.g., cut every other strip at a 45-degree angle) to create an easier entry point and reduce wear.
Step 5: Secure the Channel and Final Check
- Once all strips are inserted, snap the cover piece (if your channel system has one) into place to lock the strips securely.
- Do a final check:
- Ensure all strips are hanging freely and are not twisted.
- Walk through the curtain to ensure it parts easily and closes behind you.
- For a forklift door, have a driver pass through slowly to test the clearance and swing.
Maintenance Tip for Borneo's Climate:
The PVC material is easy to maintain. Simply wipe clean with a damp cloth and mild detergent to remove dust and grime, which is especially useful for businesses in Sandakan or Papar dealing with oil or food residue. Individual strips can be easily replaced if ever damaged, making maintenance cost-effective.
